Chattanooga Area Companies
This letter is written on behalf of the Board of Directors to introduce and in some cases reintroduce you to the Chattanooga Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI). PMI is the leading professional association in project management with over 200,000 members worldwide. PMI members are individuals practicing and studying project management in many different industries, including aerospace, automotive, business management, construction, engineering, financial services, health care, information technology, insurance, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, telecommunication, and energy industry. The Chattanooga Chapter was formed in 2003 by a group of local Project Management Professionals from a wide cross section of employers in the Chattanooga area. The Chattanooga PMI chapter “seeks to promote the professionalism in project management and support our local community, corporate sponsors and membership by providing educational programs, training and professional association”.
In the past few years Chattanooga PMI has grown to over 138 members from over 25 area companies. Some of those companies include TVA, Unumt, Shaw Industries, Roper, Alstom Power, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and many other leading companies across multiple project management disciplines. Our growth in our membership is due to the support we get from companies like yours. You can learn more about the PMI Chattanooga Chapter by visiting our web site at www.chattanoogapmi.org.
Additionally, our commitment has been to provide continued training for our membership and project managers in Chattanooga and the surrounding areas. We have partnered with Chattanooga State and other firms to train project managers to qualify for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. This certification was recognized by CertCities.com in 2006 as fourth most after certification. Chattanooga PMI provided PMP training to almost 50 professionals and currently has 86 members with PMP certifications.
While the actual projects of our members differ, their role in managing those projects is fairly typical across the board. Project Management is the application of similar knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to specific projects in order to meet or exceed stakeholder expectations. This involves balancing work scope, time, cost and quality to maximize financial return. It’s easy to see that every organization that manages projects can benefit from a well-trained project manager.
We are asking you as an organization that employs one or more of our members to financially support our chapter. It is imperative that we continue to offer and develop new local training programs of high caliber and have resources available for our members to access. While some programs have been so successful due to our results that they are becoming self-sustaining it is important to seek funding so that we can to continue to grow. While we continue advancing our project management knowledge and skills we have also committed as an organization to use our profession and talents to increase community activity.
Please consider supporting our local chapter but more importantly, consider supporting your organization, your employees and your community by helping develop skilled project managers. I have no doubt that your organization will benefit from your support of our Chapter and I thank you for your consideration.
