
Michael W. Strickland, MBA, PMP
Mike Strickland serves as Project Management Institute (PMI) Region 14 Component Mentor. In this role he provides consultation and mentoring for PMI chapters in the South USA and Caribbean. Mike is a founding member of the South Carolina Midlands Chapter of PMI and served as the chapter’s first president during 1996-1997. He served a second term during 2005-2007.
Mr. Strickland has recently relocated to Chattanooga where he is now Assistant Vice President of Operations with EPB Fiber Optics. In this role he is responsible for the daily operations of the fiber optic network including field operations, middleware, video head- end and customer technical support. He formerly served as Executive Vice President of Spirit Telecom in Columbia, S. C. with responsibilities for the corporate Project Management Office, software applications development and strategic projects portfolio management. Mike also initiated the Signaling System 7 Services business unit (formerly IDN, LLC) and served as its president. Mr. Strickland held a variety of management positions in a twenty-seven year career with AT&T (formerly BellSouth Telecommunications) including network planning and design, product commercialization, and circuit provisioning. He has managed a variety of strategic telecommunications projects in the areas of network facilities and switching, database conversions and regulatory initiatives.
Mr. Strickland serves on the board of directors for S.C. Telco Federal Credit Union and with other civic and professional organizations. Mike has taught Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Courses at Midlands Technical College. He is an adjunct professor with the University of South Carolina, teaching a capstone course in project management to graduating seniors.
Mr. Strickland received his baccalaureate and MBA degrees from the University of South Carolina and has an Advanced Masters Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. He has held PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP) certification since December 1995 and completed PMI’s Leadership Institute Master Class in October 2008.
